Retrograde root canal treatment

Trusted Root Canal Doctor. Call Us in Phenix City for Info. During root canal treatment , the canals are cleane and inflamed or infected tissue is removed. Root canals are very complex, with many small branches off the main canal.

Sometimes, even after root canal treatment , infected debris can remain in these branches and possibly prevent healing or cause re-infection later. A filling made of amalgam or composite resin is used to seal the end of the root.

Performing root canal treatment via its root end is termed retrograde endodontic therapy. The patient and practitioner decided to attempt a nonsurgical treatment. It must be stresse however, that retrograde filling is not comparable to debridement and obturation of the entire root canal. Therefore, when the only way to approach the root canal is from the apical direction, rather than placing an apical retrograde filling, a retrograde endodontic treatment of the entire canal should be preferre if it is feasible. During retrograde filling the dentist cuts a flap in the gum and creates a hole in the bone to get access to the bottom tip of the root.

The ideal root -end filling material should be easy to manipulate, radiopaque, dimensionally stable, nonabsorbable, and not affected by the presence of moisture. Retrograde root canal treatment : A prospective case series. The aim of the following case reports is to describe its use as a retrograde filling material.

An apicectomy (also known as surgical endodontics, apical surgery or peri-radicular surgery) should be considered only when conventional endodontic root filling or re- treatment ( root canal treatment ) techniques have failed.

This list is not exhaustive nor is it predictive. The most pertinent warnings have been included here. This usually is done after a failed root canal treatment and involves the sealing of this infected tip area with a biocompatible material. Many of the listed procedures do not fall under what is considered “mainstream endodontics” as a specialty, but include procedures typically offered in a general practice or other dental specialties like oral surgery, periodontics, prosthodontics, etc.

It is also known as root-end resection. The root end cavity was filled with Biodentine (Fig. 2f).

Based on the radiographic and clinical data, a dental abscess was diagnose and root canal treatment was indicated. Endodontic treatment was initiated at the first visit. The radiographs taken show an apical translucency and a separated root canal instrument that extruded out of the mesio-buccal root. The filling of the four root canals was radiopaque. There were no signs of voids or porosities in the root canal walls.

Filling (RRF) Warnings. Root canal re- treatment is a safe procedure but complications may occur after procedure. Re-infection or tooth damage may occur after root canal re- treatment. To avoid any complications after root canal re- treatment , procedure should be done by an experienced endodontist.

Patient should follow instructions of his endodontist after procedure. Conventional root canal therapy is usually performed on dogs and cats months of age and older with endodontic disease. Treatment involves removing dead or dying pulp tissue from the tooth, disinfecting, and shaping the root canal with hand files or rotary files.

The majority of failed non surgical root canals are caused by problems near the tip (apex) of the root. In rare circumstances a simple root canal treatment is not enough to stop infection (re)occurring around the root end. In this case a Root Apicectomy can be carried out. Apicoectomy is an invasive but effective surgical procedure to overcome this kind of problems. It can be used for root and pulpal floor perforations, internal and external resorption, apexification, and retrograde root - canal obturation.

Biodentine fulfills the requirements for a suitable root -end filling material in that it exhibits biocompatibility, long-term sealing of the cavity,. Extraction of teeth with failed root - canal treatment and replacement with implants has increasingly become more popular than surgical and non-surgical endodontic retreatment. Technological advances, such as the use of magnification and ultrasonics, and the development of new materials promise greater efficiency and improved treatment outcomes.

After placing the dental dam on a tooth to receive pulp therapy, you would disinfect the dental dam with: iodine solution. A surgical procedure in which the root canal is filled from the apex is a(n): retrograde. Approximately two third of the root canal filling should be removed to stabilize the tooth within the root and crown by applying a composite restoration.

Root canal treatment needs to be done prior to the extraction in order to reduce the extraoral time.
