Partial tooth denture

What problems can you get with partial dentures? How much do partial dentures cost? How do you replace teeth in dentures? Can one dental implant hold more than the one tooth?

A cast metal partial denture involves a metal framework.

Flexible Partial Dentures. A dental flipper is another type of removable partial denture ,. A partial denture is a removable, yet natural-looking dental appliance that helps restore the form and function of your jaw by replacing one or several missing teeth. These are partial dentures clipped onto your existing teeth , and can only be used if you have healthy remaining teeth to attach them to. Partial dentures are used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw.

These solid teeth will be the anchor for the new partial and it will be important that you take care of these teeth in the future so that your partial can still attach to them. When cleaning a partial denture , it’s a good idea to stand over a folded towel or a sink. Do not use toothpaste since it can be too harsh for cleaning dentures.

Some people use hand soap or mild dishwashing liquid to clean. It may also replace front teeth as well as back teeth. If the removable partial denture only replaces missing teeth on one side in the back, then it is called a unilateral (one side) partial denture.

Some partial dentures are designed to be installed and worn permanently, while others are removable. A removable partial denture usually has replacement teeth attached to a metal or acrylic (plastic) base that matches the color of your gums. Removable partial dentures , also known as RPDs, are designed to be taken out and cared for by the patient. Acrylic partial dentures are more affordable, but they tend to feel more bulky.

This partial has an acrylic base into which the denture teeth are set and is attached to your natural teeth with small metal clasps. The acrylic partial may be available with more durable, natural-looking teeth. The metal framework attaches to your natural teeth on either side, similar to a retainer. There is very slight movement. Sometimes this trait makes the patient much happier with a fixed bridge, also sometimes called a fixed partial denture.

Rinse your mouth with salt water to relieve pain and swelling. Take over the counter (OTC) pain relief medication to ease discomfort. Wear your dentures as much as possible to. This is most true for mucosal borne acrylic partial dentures which have many teeth on them, since they most closely resemble a full denture in their construction, and the way you wear them.

Dentures are designed to withstand daily wear, but bad things happen and your partial may crack, break or even lose teeth.

Partial Dentures Adjusting to eating and speaking with your partial denture will be awkward at first, but after the adjustment period you will become accustomed to it. Learning how to insert, remove, and clean partial dentures takes some time. This base will support the number of teeth that need to be replaced by resting around the natural teeth and will be held in the mouth by using clasps, commonly made from metal.
