Tooth hurts weeks after root canal

Why do I still have pain weeks after my root canal? Does a tooth always hurt when you need a root canal? How long does your tooth hurt after the tooth is pulled? Is it normal to have bad pain in a tooth after a root canal?

If the root tip itself was infected before the root canal , there’s probably room for a little excess cement and you’ll never know it was overfilled.

If the tooth was not infected around the tip of the root , that’s when overfilling is likely to cause pain after a root canal. It’s rare, but a tiny bubble of air can also be forced out of the root tip , causing pressure and pain. It may take some time, but the pain in either case should subside on its own. It’s normal to experience mild to moderate pain for a few days after a root canal. A look at pain after a root canal , a common complaint that can last for some time.

Included is detail on when to get help and managing root canal pain. Most pain should subside within a week of having a root canal completed.

If pain persists , it could indicate that there is still a low-grade infection around the tooth. In some cases, your dentist can prescribe you an antibiotic, or adjust the filling placed in the tooth if it was overbuilt. There are a number of possible causes of pain after the completion of a root canal. After a root canal is complete no living nerve tissue remains inside the tooth , but nerve endings remain in the ligaments that attach the tooth to the surrounding bone.

These ligaments have nerve fiber associated with them that can feel pain. Have the files pushed it into the soft tissue when the dentist went too far? Should I go back and ask for some antibiotics just in case? It hurt for about a day or so, then felt great.

I could even chew on it. It hurts to tap on the tooth or bite down on it. Has anyone experienced this? However, if the pain is intense and lasts for more than a few weeks , it might be an indication of root canal failure.

Fortunately, you can mitigate discomfort. You may experience pain after root canal when you bite your teeth together. Keep in mind that the infection and treatment of your root canal tooth creates swelling, inflammation, bruising, and pain.

These symptoms are temporary and will subside over time. Pain after root canal is normal. You may find that there is little or no jaw pain after root canal , provided the procedure is conducted as soon as tooth decay or infection is detected. If infection in the tooth has seeped in deep before the procedure is conducte a considerable period is required for the tooth to heal after the procedure, and you may experience some pain in the jaw. Significant tooth pain occurring within one week of root canal therapy, referred to as post-endodontic flare-up pain, has been reported to occur in 1. This pain has been well described within the literature as severe pain (≥on a scale of 0–10) occurring in or around the location of a tooth that received root canal therapy within the last week.

Tooth pain after root canal treatment is a common occurrence, but is usually minor and goes away within a week. If any pain lasts beyond this, it may be a sign that you need further treatment and you should contact your dentist. The pain is either more intense and or lasts longer after a stimulation like cold or chewing. This is more severe than the case above.

We classify this as irreversible pulpitis. Likely possibility that one of the Adjacent tooth or Opposing tooth on the same side of the arch may be having pulpitis. This could be more like a Referred pain originating from one of the teeth close to the root canal treated tooth. The first thing they did was to tell me I needed a root canal and so I let them do it.
