Root canal tooth sensitive to hot and cold

How to relieve sensitive teeth? What is the difference between a tooth extraction and a root canal? Are root canals painful? Cracks in teeth – small cracks or crevices in teeth can develop into larger fissures as the tooth enamel expands and contracts with exposure to temperature changes.


Teeth are protected by enamel, which is their first defense against hot, col sticky and abrasive items. When this enamel wears down, it can cause tooth decay , which exposes sensitive nerves within the pulp of the teeth.

Enamel can become weaker with age, an acidic or sugary diet and a history of acid reflux disease. If a nerve is left behin your tooth will remain sensitive to hot and cold as it was before the procedure. If bacteria are causing an infection, the tooth will be sensitive to pressure. Sometimes, the spaces left for bacteria to reside in are microscopic and found in the very tip of the root. Neither problem will settle down on its own.


Root canal - tooth still sensative to cold water. I had a root canal done last Friday (days ago) because my upper back tooth was hurting from cold water. There is a temporary cap on it until i go back weeks from Friday and get my permanent seal on it.

A sudden discomfort felt in the teeth when you taste specific food that is too hot and cold or sweet gets known as Tooth sensitivity cold and hot. The pain in most cases is sharp and sudden but temporary. You have swelling on the gum area around the tooth. The tooth may be sensitive to touch however there is no pain when drinking hot or cold liquids.


Tooth still sensitive: Still cold sensitive weeks after amalgam fillings. You still could have sensitvity in the surrounding teeth. However none in a root canal treated tooth. Ledford on sensitivity to cold after root canal : You should absolutely not have any temperature senitivity following a root canal.


The tooth should not be sensitive to hot and cold because the nerve inside the canal has been remove however, post-operative pain can result after root canal therapy. Discomfort can occur from the infection outside of the tooth , so the tooth might be tender to touch or pressure. The following symptoms indicate a root canal is needed: Severe toothache pain from chewing. Your tooth hurts longer than it should after exposure to hot or cold temperatures. Darkening or discoloration of the tooth.


Swollen and tender gums surrounding a tooth , or a rotten taste in your mouth. Tooth sensitivity occurs when the enamel that protects our teeth gets thinner, or when gum recession occurs, exposing the underlying surface, the dentin, thus, reducing the protection the enamel and gums provide to the tooth and root. If hot , cold , sweet or very acidic foods and drinks, or breathing in cold air, makes your teeth or a tooth sensitive or painful, then you may have sensitive teeth. Try using fluoride-containing toothpaste made for sensitive teeth.


If the sensitivity continues, see your dentist.

SymptoSensitivity to hot or cold foods after dental treatment. Removes the nerve: A root canal removes the nerve, blood vessels, lymphatics and other dead cells in the center of the tooth. After the root canal is done, the tooth will not be sensitive to hot , cold or sweets. A fracture down the root of a tooth can not be saved with a root canal and can only be extracted due to the constant flexing of the tooth apon pressure. It could be you have an extra root that was not detected on the radio graph, which is not that rare.


In that case you should be able to still feel cold , too. Likely possibility that one of the Adjacent tooth or Opposing tooth on the same side of the arch may be having pulpitis. This could be more like a Referred pain originating from one of the teeth close to the root canal treated tooth.


But since the crown, I have had sensitivity just by barely touching the sides of my tooth.
