Root canal and trigeminal neuralgia

Does marijuana help trigeminal neuralgia? Can stress cause trigeminal neuralgia? What is the best treatment for trigeminal neuralgia? Is there any natural treatment for trigeminal neuralgia?

As to a root canal , if your tooth is infected or badly decaye you may need a root canal treatment.

The treatment will remove the nerve and pulp of decayed or infected tooth, clean the inside and seal the tooth. Many people feel painful after a root canal treatment. In the last three months I’ve had three teeth with root canal symptoms. Some patients see their dentists and actually have a root canal performe which inevitably brings no relief.

When the pain persists, patients realize the problem is not dental-related. Most root canal treatments do not lead to any complications. In trigeminal neuralgia the pain usually starts in the lower face and jaw and can also affect the area around the nose and above the eye.

Trigeminal neuopathy or post-traumatic trigeminal neuralgia may develop.

To diagnose trigeminal neuralgia , you will have to use a dental X-ray first in order to make sure no tooth is cracke and no infection or inflammation is there. Should your teeth and gums be found perfect, the next step is to visit your GP. There are two trigeminal nerves, one on each side of the face. Maybe I never needed root canal in the first place!

Tara Renton presents a literature review for the post-endodontic neuropathy of the trigeminal nerve. Sensory disturbances or peripheral neuropathies such as anesthesia, hypo-esthesia, hyperesthesia, and paresthesia may present in the trigeminal system due to many local and systemic factors. This can result from extraction, implant placed into the inferior alveolar nerve , injury to the inferior alveolar nerve during a root canal procedure, excessive trauma to the jaw joint by an overly lengthy procedure, sinus injury from Caldwell-Luc procedures and following nerve destruction procedures (rhizotomies).

Many times this patient ends up with several root canals and or teeth pulled because they are unable to accurately describe the pain they are feeling and are desperate to relieve it. To avoid unnecessary root canal filling or tooth extraction, it is recommended to consult your GP, if the dentist fails to find the cause of pain. The most common treatment that is usually performed first is a root canal. Even if a tooth may look healthy the dentist may proceed to the therapy to help the patient which is in severe tooth pain. I have had trigeminal neuralgia since the age of 5 now at started as an electric shock to the left side of my face.

This pain came and went at irregular intervals and pointed to teeth problems. This became more severe with time and I put it down to old root canal filled teeth and had several removed. Brisman testified that the dental work ( root canal treatment) was not causally related to the patient’s trigeminal neuralgia.

The pain subsided briefly but kept.

The jury agreed and came back with a verdict that was favorable to the defendant (dentist). What kind of dental care should patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TN) have? The trigeminal nerve separates into three different branches, which is why sensations can be felt on one entire side of the face. TN specialists report that many of their patients had at least one not needed dental treatment before trigeminal neuralgia pain was diagnosed.

This pain is called trigeminal neuralgia , also known as tic douloureux. When pain from an abscessed tooth is present, the trigeminal nerve sends that pain impulse to the brain. If you suffer from trigeminal neuralgia , there are steps you can take to alleviate pain.
