Root canal under bridge tooth

Sometimes, a tooth under a dental bridge may go bad. It usually happens because of the gum infection. In case of severe infection, the dental bridge may be removed and a root canal treatment will be needed to treat an infected tooth. These porcelain teeth may allow you to eat more foods and improve the look of your smile.

Damage may also occur to teeth supporting the bridge.

In regard to the above calculation, the bridge costs would be the same for replacing any tooth. There should be no difference in the work done for a root canal whether it be under a bridge or not. What Can Cause Pain Under A Bridge ? There are several things that your dentist will be considering as they diagnose the cause for your pain: If the bridge is new, is the bite too high?

Has food impacted under the bridge or between the nearby teeth , causing the pain?

Is there decay under one of the crowns supporting the. If a root canal has to be performed and a new bridge being made, thenthe root canal is first then the bridge. If a bridge exists and a root canal is require then a hole is created at the top fo the tooth and a root canal is done throught this hole. The hole is then filled with a tooth colored restoration. The anchor tooth on my lower bridge has developed.

The biggest concern when this route is taken is if the patchwork filling can create an adequate seal. Placing a crown after a root canal was done adds protection so the tooth can handle more pressure. While a crown makes sense after a root canal , does it also work the other way around? We drill through bridge abutments fairly regularly to do root canals. It does weaken the tooth somewhat, so I usually fabricate a cast post to cement inside when the root canal is done.

If your dentist does not want to do this, perhaps an endodontist will. If there is decay around the abuttment crown, that adds to the complication. Re: Avoid bridges and unnecessary root canals I have been through a nightmare with a dental bridge as well. My dentist was replacing a permanent bridge which opened up a can of worms filled with torturous pain.

Pain may be felt if your dental bridge is loose or there’s decay under the crown that supports the bridge. Your dental bridge may also hurt because of a gum disease that has weakened the supporting teeth , or a nerve died in one of those supporting teeth resulting in an abscess. The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal.

The root is then cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection. Root canal treatment is a skilled and time-consuming procedure. Most courses of treatment will involve two or more visits to your dentist. At the first appointment, the infected pulp is removed.

If the tooth has a lot of root structure left and can be easily saved with a root canal and a crown, go with that.
