Roots of maxillary molars

How many roots does the maxillary first premolar have? The maxillary first molar normally has three roots. What are the maxillary teeth? The mesiobuccal root is broad distobuccal and has prominent depressions or flutings on its mesial and distal surfaces. The internal canal morphology is highly variable, but the majority of the mesiobuccal roots contain two canals.

Trifurcation gives maxillary molars sturdy anchorage against forces that would tend to displace them.

The lingual root is the longest, and the distobuccal is the shortest. According to Vertucci , distobuccal roots of maxillary molars show one canal in 1 of the cases. Other authors described the occurrence of a second distobuccal canal in first maxillary molars with an incidence of 1. The presence of oblique ridge on the occlusal surface is a characteristic feature of the maxillary molar.

Due to both increased dental biofilm retention and the thinness of enamel forming walls of the pit.

Are the multiple roots of the molars and premolars oriented the same? The buccal root of the maxillary molars was more commonly protruded into the maxillary sinus. Among the roots of maxillary posterior teeth (from first premolar to second molar), mesiobuccal root of first molar and palatal root of second premolar were found in close proximity to the floor of maxillary sinus. Lower central and lateral incisors - The single root of a lower incisor sometimes has canals.

The mesial contact area is buccal to the buccolingual center of the crown. Interestingly, the distobuccal (DB) root canal in second maxillary molars is often difficult to negotiate because an S-shaped DB root is a quite common finding. Supernumerary roots is a condition found in teeth when there may be a larger number of roots than expected. The most common teeth affected are mandibular (lower) canines, premolars, and molars , especially third molars.

Canines and most premolars, except for maxillary (upper) first premolars, usually have one root. Maxillary molars are teeth of clinical interest as they present with wide range of anatomical variations in their roots and in their canals. Apart from the usual three root anatomy of maxillary second molar, few studies have recorded occurrence of an extra palatal root in maxillary second molar making an uncommon ‘four root’ scenario. In particular, anticipation of rare anatomical variations should be crucial for endodontic specialists.

Such a dental anomaly is the presence of two palatal roots in human maxillary second molars. They rest along the upper jawbone, or maxilla, and have roots that extend into the upper jawbone resting near the maxillary sinuses. All together there are sixteen maxillary teeth, including the incisors, cuspids, bicuspids, and molars.

There are buccal cusps. Both Molars have major cusps. Any existing root canals that remain undetected by the operator during the entire course of endodontic treatment are a major threat to the failure of treatment.
