Lower overdenture

This is a close up view of the upper and lower dentures in the mouth. Compared to a typical denture, overdenture function is an improvement, but significantly less than the functionality of one’s natural teeth. Research indicates that a denture wearer’s function is only at of full function.

The overdenture is only removable by a Dental Clinician and is the most like natural teeth due to not having flanges and not resting on the gums. The patient also desired a secon or spare, overdenture to use in the event of loss or needed repairs. The existing bar (Andrews bar format) was remove exposing the tops of all implants.


Five out of the seven implant positions were used for the case. The two anterior implants were not needed for retention,. Overdenture implants are a set of dentures which are supported by implants. When having overdentures place your dentist or oral surgeon will place the implants first.


It is attached by specialized dental attachments that are secured in the roots or implants. Overdentures are often worn by edentulous patients, patients who have lost all of their teeth.

An upper overdenture requires more implants because the bone is softer. The cost of an upper overdenture starts at $1000. Typically a full mouth upper and lower overdentures your looking at under $20while a fixed solution would start at the low $4000. Like traditional dentures, implant overdentures are removable appliances that include prosthetic teeth. Unlike traditional dentures, maxillary overdentures are shaped like a horseshoe.


This is a godsend for many patients, as the palate of the prosthesis can be eliminated (Figs. 2a, 2b). This affords better comfort, speech and taste. How many implants are needed for a mandibular overdenture?


According to a study in the Journal of Oral Research and Review, overdentures can reduce shrinkage of the jawbone and redirect forces and pressure in the mouth, helping the dentures stay stable. What is an overdenture partial? Also known as “overdentures,” implant-supported lower dentures are the gold standard in treatment options for people with missing teeth.


They replace your teeth with strong, stable dentures, which you can remove at will, but fit snugly into place until you want to take them out for cleaning or maintenance. An overdenture is a denture, the base of which covers one or more teeth, prepared roots or implants. Replacing missing teeth is essential. Even if it’s just one tooth, foregoing restoration can be detrimental to oral and overall health as well as a patient’s self-confidence. For patients who are missing an entire row or both arches of their teeth, these adverse effects are even greater.


Bar-Retaine Implant Supported. The overdenture , which is removable, is secured to the bar through attachments fabricated directly into the denture. A custom-fitted support bar is affixed to the dental implants and the teeth snap into place using special retention clips.

This style, called an “overdenture,” holds the teeth very securely, allowing for little shifting or movement when you speak or eat. However, the denture is still removable for cleaning. Lower cost (as much as half the cost) Much easier cleaning.
