Root filled tooth

Tooth removal is necessary when the crack is so extensive that it leads to an untreatable fractured root. A filling or crown does not protect the pulp of a bumped or hit tooth. Once this happens, the root is no longer sealed and bacteria are harbored inside the tooth and its roots. Eventually this will lead to an infection of the tissue around the tooth.
