Infection after root canal retreatment

How can root canal treatment become re infected? Can you get a staph infection after having a root canal? What are potential complications after a root canal? What food can I eat after a root canal treatment?

New decay can expose the root canal filling material to bacteria, causing a new infection in the tooth. A loose, cracked or broken crown or filling can expose the tooth to new infection.

A tooth sustains a fracture. Endodontists are careful of infections when it comes to root canals. Some infections , which could be caused by an abscess, form before the root canal is performe while others experience an infection after the root canal procedure has been completed. During root canal treatment , your dentist cleans up the canals making use of special instruments called files. Irritated or infected tissue is removed.

An apicoectomy may be required when an infection develops or will not go away after root canal treatment or retreatment. Root canal treatments are often necessary when decay works its way deep within a tooth , into the pulp. The excruciating pain a person feels is the infection attacking the bundle of nerves within the pulp tissue.

In that case, you may need root canal retreatment.

There are several reasons why your root canal treatment may not have succeeded at first. The canals receive another cleaning and shaping. Following this, new root canal filling is installed. A temporary filling closes the opening to the tooth and completes the retreatment procedure. The next question you may ask is — what will happen during pretreatment ? If you have a fever after a root canal treatment , contact your endodontist or dentist immediately.

Maxillary First molars statistically have the highest failure rate after endondontics of any tooth in the mouth. Bacteria can also reinfect a tooth if a permanent filling was not placed very soon after the root canal treatment. Temporary fillings or poorly placed permanent fillings can break down or leak.

This allows bacteria back into the canal. You probably assumed that the root canal and crown took care of the initial problem 1. But this is not always the case. A probable reason for infection after root canal is presence of similar infections in other root canals, which remain undiagnosed at the time of treatment. With time, they spread to the already treated root canal resulting in reinfection. At times, the tooth filling is not done to the tip of the canal , leaving behind bacteria and infected pulp.

Since the underlying problem that currently exists with your tooth is that its root canal system is contaminated (with microorganisms, debris, irritants, etc), the only dental procedure that can remedy its situation is additional root canal therapy ( retreatment ). Having the tooth extracted. Root Canal Retreatment May Become Necessary In some cases, a previous treated tooth may become painful or infected a number of months or years after the initial endodontic procedure.

This doesn’t mean you will lose the tooth but rather the suspect tooth has a second chance. Pain or soreness for a few days after a root canal , especially in the area of the affected tooth and gums, is normal. Endodontically treated teeth are not impervious to new decay, which exposes the root canal filling material to bacteria, leading to a new infection in the tooth. Loose, cracked or a broken crown or filling can expose the tooth to new infection. I have had the infections for several months.

My question is it safe to wait until my appointment in mid November? In some instances, a root canal treatment can cause inflammation of the surrounding sinus cavities resulting to congestion. Most often this complication subsides after a few weeks.

It may takes one or two weeks or even month (s) before happen.
