Swelling after rct treatment

They can leave you with pain , swelling , black eyes and worse. Sometimes when the infection has had time to advance, even after aggressive antibiotic treatment and a root canal , the bacteria lingers, causing the area to flare up again. Yes, this is a dental emergency.


This kind of swelling can be seen before undergoing a root canal treatment as well as a result of acute or chronic pulpitis, which leads to build up of pus and pressure in the root canal. However, more often than not, when speaking of swelling , one usually refers to swelling after root canal treatment , which is one of the most common complications experienced.

I am a general dentist. I also had such experience days ago. I gave a RCT treatment to my patient who has chronic periapical abscess at lower right but no sinus and swelling was present in her mouth.


But I saw that abscess in intra-oral periapical view. While I was treating her tooth, everything was alright. And then,2days after treating RCT , she suffered a slight pain and swelling at. The reason for that is when the infection happens in the tooth , it starts burrowing the bone from there.


Swelling means there is still inflammation, and it takes a few days to subside after the treatment and healing of the site of infection.
