Nesbit denture

Is denture mold the same as dentures? What is a dentist denture? How to replace missing teeth? How much do partial dentures cost?

A Nesbit denture is a removable partial denture for only one side of the upper or lower arch.

It replaces a tooth or teeth and usually is retained by clasps, preferably with rests on the supporting teeth to prevent the denture from settling into the gum tissue. Nesbit dentures are designed to replace a single tooth, on just one side of the wearer’s mouth. However, they can also be used in tandem to fill the space of about three. While a partial denture can often do the trick here, Nesbit partials are used for one to three teeth that are much smaller. A Nesbit partial is a simple, inexpensive tooth replacement, but there is a risk of swallowing it.

Temporary dental crown and acrylic resin pivot. Removable partial denture without occlusal rests (vertical stop).

Acrylic complete denture with hollow palate surface. New acrylics that are flexible have reduced the fracture issues, but there are other issues that should be looked at. This is detrimental to the gums and underlying bone. The pressure can be too great on the tissue.

Typical application of a Nesbit denture would be to replace a single molar missing between two other molars. The false tooth is held in place by a plastic framework that snaps around the two real molars. All metal partial dentures are readily detected on standard radiographs, but this fact did not prevent one epileptic patient from carrying such a prosthesis in the pyriform sinus for eleven months while a series of doctors tried to resolve his complaints of choking, dyspnoea and dysphagia.

Metal components in a plastic denture , such as wire retainers or clasps, will also aid location on a radiograph. Clasps should render a partial denture less likely to dislodge but require regular review. The denture teeth are then placed in pink acrylic, which replaces any missing teeth the patient may have. Typically, before getting removable partial dentures , the dentist has to prepare some of the remaining teeth with dimples and grooves, which are made so that the metal framework can slide into the teeth.

Traditionally these ‘one tooth partial dentures’ were made of a combination of a chromium cobalt metal framework with two metal clasps and an acrylic portion to replace the missing tooth and gums. Metal clasps fit around the teeth on either side of the space. However, because a Nesbit denture is not supported by teeth on the other side of the mouth, it can place extreme pressure on the clasped teeth. The Nesbit is a denture tooth with plastic or metal clips that encircle the abutment teeth. Most people eat and speak well with Nesbit partials.

They will never look or feel like the natural tooth they replace, but they seem to be very comfortable and easy to use. My dentist, very nice, states that a Nesbit partial is illegal to offer me in the State of Oregon due to a very few swallowing or inhaling the small dental fixture. I am currently wearing a temporary fixture. It has a large plastic palate piece with wire attachments at the back of my upper teeth on the right and left side of my mouth.

Also, the bone support anchoring the teeth on either side of the missing tooth may be inadequate to support a bridge. In this instance there is an appliance known as a “ Nesbit ” or spider partial. This appliance has just the one tooth and clasps on the teeth on either side of the space.

Typically more affordable than fixed restorations and only a bit more than conventional dentures with visible metal clasps, Valplast offers a uniquely beautiful aesthetic quality that is unrivaled. I can also easily add and subtract material to develop an emergence profile for the future restoration (figure 1).
