Pain in root canal treated tooth years later

Although placement of a crown helps protect the treated root from fracturing during chewing, a crack may still develop years later. Additionally, it is rare but possible that the root canal treatment itself can cause a fracture in a tooth root. It’s still possible to bite down and crack the root or an existing crack under the crown may grow down the root. This may cause pain when biting down on the crown in certain ways.
