What is an alternative to a root canal

What are the risks of not getting a root canal? Are there any alternatives to a root canal? Is tooth extraction better than root canal? Is there an alternative to root canal procedure?

One of the most popular alternatives to root canals is extraction of the offending tooth and the replacement with a bridge, implant or partial denture. The root canal treated tooth showed no clinical or physical signs of failing.

A root canal is an embalming procedure dentists perform on a tooth. Root canals are designed to keep a dead tooth mechanically functioning in a live body. Despite the common belief that there is no alternative to root canals other than having the tooth pulle there is another way! Our body can protect itself from infection when we carefully eat foods that keep our body in balance. It requires the strictest of principles to follow such a diet.

There are a few options available to those searching for an alternative to root canal therapy. Medication In some cases, a tooth infection will respond well to antibiotic therapy, making a root canal unnecessary. For pulp capping to be effective you need to meet specific criteria such as minimal pulp exposure, no abscess, the injury to the tooth has to be fresh and pulp capping doesn’t work on a dead tooth.

Most dental professionals will tell you that it is always best practice to save the tooth whenever possible.

During the root canal procedure, the endodontist (root canal specialist) will use very small files to remove the pulp, clean the now-empty canal area with a disinfectant-like bleach, and seal the space with a rubber-like filling. The tooth is now weak and vulnerable. In order to strengthen the tooth,. Sometimes severe tooth damage or untreated cavity can lead to the pulp being infect with bacteria.

Alternatives to Root Canal Treatment. If root canal treatment is not given, you may end up losing your tooth. Some people have had success with oil pulling and using natural antibiotics such as oregano oil and garlic (I tried these without much luck, although they did help relieve some swelling from my infection). If a patient is experiencing pain or swelling, root canal , or endodontic, therapy may be recommended.

Many patients would like to avoid the cost and discomfort of the root canal procedure if possible. Of course the pain goes away because there is no longer a nerve to perceive pain. When the root canal is complete the tooth is no longer alive. The healthiest alternative to a root canal is simply to take out the infection by removing the tooth. Does this sound barbaric when you can “save” the tooth with root canal therapy?

For years, a root canal has been the traditional treatment for decay that has advanced into the pulp of the tooth. Here’s how a root canal works: The surface of the tooth is ground away, allowing access to the pulp and nerve which is then removed. However, the ONLY alternative that we embrace is called the removable partial. The pulp chamber is filled and sealed.

And there are only specific types of removable partials – made of certain materials – which we use.

For many the question still remains: “You really mean that there is no healthy alternative to a root canal except tooth extraction? Endodontists use several techniques to save teeth. If the pulp becomes infected and the tooth dies, a root canal will be needed to save the tooth from tooth extraction.

There are alternatives to root canal treatment, if it is determined that the nerve is damaged in a tooth, but the tooth is still savable then a root canal would be the treatment of choice. The decision of whether to save the tooth or not is really dependent on the extent to which the tooth is damaged. After an extraction, a dental implant, fixed bridge, or partial denture is necessary to prevent remaining teeth from drifting.

These replacements are much more expensive and time-consuming than a root canal treatment, and while durable, they cannot beat the strength.
