Known as a telescopic denture , inner and outer metal crowns are fitted over the remaining teeth of the patient. The overdenture design has to be decided depending on the various factors discussed earlier. There are two types of overdentures based on the type of abutment. An abutment is a structure built to support the lateral pressure of an arch or span.

This type of overdenture overlies natural tooth structures. Frequently, elective root canal treatment and coronal modification are carried out on the teeth that are used as abutments. An overdenture sits on top of the gums and is held in place with dental implants.

An implant-retained overdenture involves two or more implants along with a removable appliance.
Type Type and Type overdentures receive a portion of their support from the soft tissue areas. The distinguishing feature of Type overdenture is that the overdenture is completely supported by bars and implants. These posts (called abutments) are attached to the top of each implant and are the most common of the overdenture designs.
Location of implants on the ridge. The condition of the residual alveolar ridge. Dexterity of the patient. Psychosocial needs of the patient. Relative need for stability and retention.
Types of overdentures include bar joint dentures and telescopic dentures. If you lose most or all of your lower teeth there is nothing to hold a denture down while you chew. For patients with dental-related conditions, such as cleft palate, oligodontia (absence of more than six teeth in primary, permanent or both types of teeth), cleidocranial dysostosis (abnormal development of bones in the skull and clavicle area) and Class III occlusion, overdentures may be especially useful. Castable and cast to abutments as well as titanium cylinders free octa are a good option. The gold and POM cylinder can be used on implant level or in combination with extension level abutment. Partial dentures can be acrylic (plastic) or metal.

A wide variety of commercially available attachment systems are used to connect implants to overdentures either by splinting or unsplinting the implants, most commonly used include stu bar, magmatic, and telescopic attachments. A resilient bar, like the Hadar bar, has a single axis of rotation.
Locators, ERAs, and balls are all examples of studs and these are probably the most popular attachment types in the US. Papers without abstracts were also excluded ( Table ).
