Do root canals always work to save a tooth? Is a root canal the only option for an infected tooth? A tooth has a double nerve supply (innervation) the internal in the pulp, and the external , supplying the surrounding tissue (periodontium). Does a root canal kill feeling in your tooth?

A root canal involves deep cleaning inside the canals (the inner chamber of the root ) of your tooth , which can in turn. If this filling is a too tall, you will exert disproportionate pressure on it, which makes the ligaments around the tooth sore.

Even a slight miscalculation in the height of your filling can create noticeable, sustained discomfort. Sometimes the root canal files we use to clean out the tooth roots go slightly past the end of the tooth and can either inject some bacteria at the tip of the root or temporarily damage the ligaments. Another source of post root canal discomfort is a high bite and this can easily be corrected by your dentist.

With the same idea, a specialist can use thermal and electric testing. If the root tip itself was infected before the root canal , there’s probably room for a little excess cement and you’ll never know it was overfilled.

If the tooth was not infected around the tip of the root , that’s when overfilling is likely to cause pain after a root canal.

It’s rare, but a tiny bubble of air can also be forced out of the root tip , causing pressure and pain. It may take some time, but the pain in either case should subside on its own.
