Pain in other teeth after root canal

Is it normal to have bad pain in a tooth after a root canal? Can tooth pain radiate to other teeth? Why is my tooth sensitive after root canal? What happens to a tooth after a root canal is done?

A root canal involves deep cleaning inside the canals (the inner chamber of the root ) of your tooth , which can in turn irritate surrounding nerves and gums.

The pain shouldn’t last forever. If the tooth was not infected around the tip of the root , that’s when overfilling is likely to cause pain after a root canal. It’s rare, but a tiny bubble of air can also be forced out of the root tip , causing pressure and pain. In the first few days after root canal treatment (also termed RCT or endodontics), it is quite normal to experience some pain.

Any pain should be mil and the tooth may be tender to touch or bite down on. Sometimes, complications can develop after a root canal. An issue with the filling or a small crack in the tooth may be causing the issue.

Fast facts on pain after a root canal : A root canal will treat the diseased tissue (pulp) while preserving the rest of the tooth.

A person will be given anesthetic before the procedure, so it is. The root canal procedure itself can also cause some irritation. Therefore some root canal pain after the procedure, usually a mild dull pain , is quite common and certainly not alarming. Most patients experience a tender tooth for the first days after treatment.

It’s still possible to bite down and crack the root or an existing crack under the crown may grow down the root. This may cause pain when biting down on the crown in certain ways. After a root canal is complete no living nerve tissue remains inside the tooth , but nerve endings remain in the ligaments that attach the tooth to the surrounding bone. These ligaments have nerve fiber associated with them that can feel pain. They are the source of any post root canal pain.

I never had the root canal I mentioned in my earlier comment capped because I was, well, lazy. Last year (years after the root canal ) the tooth cracked and nearly had to be pulled. Likely possibility that one of the Adjacent tooth or Opposing tooth on the same side of the arch may be having pulpitis. This could be more like a Referred pain originating from one of the teeth close to the root canal treated tooth. Since the pain emanating from one tooth may travel along the same neuropathway as other teeth on the same side, the brain is unable to discern which tooth is the problem.

This isn’t the only cause of post root canal pain. This is done by using a rubber dam and placing it around the tooth.

The most common source of pain after a root canal is the inflammation of tissues around the tooth’s root. You may find that there is little or no jaw pain after root canal , provided the procedure is conducted as soon as tooth decay or infection is detected. If infection in the tooth has seeped in deep before the procedure is conducte a considerable period is required for the tooth to heal after the procedure, and you may experience some pain in the jaw. A tooth that has undergone a root canal almost always needs a crown or some other tooth restoration to protect what remains of the tooth and guard against future tooth pain.

Pain After a Root Canal After a root canal , you may experience some tooth pain and sensitivity. Be sure to follow a regular oral care routine to maintain your crown and avoid future tooth pain. Significant tooth pain occurring within one week of root canal therapy, referred to as post-endodontic flare-up pain, has been reported to occur in 1. This pain has been well described within the literature as severe pain (≥on a scale of 0–10) occurring in or around the location of a tooth that received root canal therapy within the last week. Roots of some teeth reach the sinus cavity.

In some instances, a root canal treatment can cause inflammation of the surrounding sinus cavities resulting to congestion. Most often this complication subsides after a few weeks. One is the inner seal called the gutta percha. Tooth pain can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications that treat inflammation (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin). If infection is present, antibiotics such as amoxicillin or clindamycin are prescribed as well.

These medications can help relieve the pain prior to the root canal therapy appointment. When a tooth becomes decaye bacteria can infect the dental pulp, the sensitive living tissue in the root canal , which is housed deep inside the tooth. Pain symptoms can vary, being sharp or dull, constant or intermittent, localized or spread out.
