Lower premolar root canal

Premolars with one canal were found in of cases ( first premolar and second premolar ) and premolars with two canals were found in of cases ( first premolar and second premolar ). There was just one case () where a first premolar had three canals. This article reports an unusual case of a mandibular second premolar with Type XVII (1-3-1) root canal pattern that was successfully treated with endodontic therapy. CASE REPORT A 30-year-old female patient reported to the department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics with the chief complaint of “pain in lower right back tooth. Type IV, are Type II, are Type I.

The rest are pretty small percentages. Figure 5) Many mandibular first premolars have significant lingual inclination of the root , making the second canal almost impossible to locate because the lingual canal often branches off the main canal at or near a 90-degree angle. If a single canal is present, it tends to be broad in the buccal-lingual direction, and this makes it difficult to remove biofilm from all root surfaces. Vertucci also showed that the second premolar had one canal at the apex in 97.

Certain types of teeth ( lower incisors, upper premolars , molars) and even specific tooth roots (mesiobuccal roots of upper first molars, distal roots of lower 1st molars) are well known for having the potential to have additional canals. Very high racial variances Cleghorn Lit review. Second premolars are more likely to have canal (nearly all) leaving the first premolar more likely to have canals ().

Three canals are very rare less than.

Root canal morphology varies in different ethnic groups. The coronal anatomy consists of a well-developed buccal cusp and a small or almost nonexistent lingual outgrowth of enamel. Accessory and lateral canals may be present, but less often than in incisors. Vertucci and associates stated that of maxillary second premolars in their study had one canal at the apex, had two foramina, and had three foramina. Of the teeth studie 59.

I assume the root canal was done on the lower jaw on the same side? There is something compressing the nerve possible infection. If you could give me some more details that would be great.

Thanks for your reply Dr. Yes, the root canal was done on the right side lower jaw. I believe the tooth number was 30.

Molars and premolars that have had root canal therapy should be protected with a crown that covers the cusps of the tooth. This is because the access made into the root canal system removes a significant amount of tooth structure. The most common canal configuration for the maxillary first premolar is two separate canals in one root (Vertucci type IV) with a frequency of about 60–.

One canal that extends from the pulp chamber and dividing in the mid-root into two canals (Vertucci type V) can occur in 6– of cases. Eighty three percent of second mandibular premolars had a single canal , 15. Second Premolar had decay and after root canal it got crowned only after a month as my dentist took time to operate on First Molar.

My first molar had stone or dental pulp on the nerve. I used to have extreme pain while eating sweets and both my tooth got extra canals , which were fixed. How is the root canal shaped in the midroot section of the lower second premolar ? Oval in cross section, becoming more circular towards the apex Why does accidental pulp exposure occur less frequently in the lower second premolar in comparison to the lower first premolar ? It doesn’t hurt more than a filling or any other dental procedure.

The root canal therapy on premolars is a routine, selective procedure. Because of the absence of direct access, cleaning, shaping, and filling of these teeth can be extremely difficult.
