Curved tooth root canal

The degree of curvature and number of curves within the tooth can produce challenges for appropriate shaping of the canal system. Prior to initiation of treatment, the clinician should consider both the angle and radius of curvature , as this has been suggested as a more accurate resemblance of true canal anatomy. The greater the angle of curvature and the smaller the radius of curvature , the greater the complexity of the case (Fig. 1). The two canals in mesio vestibular root canals are presenting with a curvature into “C” form.

Endodontic procedure instrumentation has been performed with Mani stainless K endodontic files and ProTaper Universal (Dentsply). A tooth with a straight root and a straight root canal is an exception rather than being normal because most teeth show some curvature of the canal.

In addition, most canals have multiple planes of curvature throughout their length. The clinician will believe that he or she performed the perfect root canal on a curved root , when in reality the canal was transported or zipped. When preparing a straight canal , any system will work. But when it comes to a severely curved canal , the curve has to be well-prepared before using any of the systems to prevent an iatrogenic event.

I had a root canal done on my upper left tooth. Root canal with curved root. While the root canal was being preformed the file broke. The dentist claims it broke because the anatomy of my tooth root is curved.

Today after the tooth has been crowned it has become infected.

Once the pulp is remove the interior of the tooth is cleaned and shaped before being filled with an anti-bacterial material. Although tooth roots are usually relatively straight or slightly curved , they can also be crooke in which case performing a root canal treatment can be challenging. It is easier to perform root canal treatment on single-rooted incisors than on teeth that have multiple roots , which are located in the back of the mouth (pictured). Your dentist should only do the root canal if she knows she’ll be able to negotiate to the tip of the canal. If there is complex root canal anatomy — lots of twists and turns that are hard to navigate — then the chance of success of the root canal goes down.

To perform a root canal , the dentist drills a hole in your tooth in order to expose the pulp cavity, the central chamber in your tooth that contains the nerve, bloo and lymphatic tissue that supplies your tooth with life-giving oxygen and nutrients. Tiny files are then used to remove the contents of this cavity. Why is my tooth root exposed? What covers the root of a tooth?

Even with a high success rate, a standard root canal procedure can leave behind a collection of sticky bacteria colonies known as biofilm. This can be difficult to remove from the root canal system. Where a root has two canals that merge into one near the apex, attack one of the curves head on and outflank the other. This type of curve is usually found in the mesial roots of lower first and second molars (Figure 8).

Curved roots - Removing multi-rooted teeth (like molars) that have especially curved , hooked or crooked roots can prove to be stubborn extractions. Beyond just being difficult procedures, the act of pulling these teeth may require the use of excessive forces that may cause bone or tooth breakage. A straight root with a straight canal is rather an exception than a common finding. Negotiating such curvatures often present a challenging situation in endodontic treatment. Roots that are curved or have sharp angles are not only more difficult to treat, but they are also sometimes impossible to adequately access for root canal treatment.

From there, your inflamed or infected tooth pulp will be cleaned out and prepped for the root canal filling.

Your tooth’s root canals will be filled with a rubber-like material and placed with an adhesive cement. Sometimes instruments used to prepare the root canal may accidentally perforate the root during filing. Often this a particular risk when the root of the tooth is very curved or it has a sudden twist. A root canal removes the diseased or infected part of the tooth , and it removes the nerve from a severely broken tooth , allowing the tooth to be saved. You may need a root canal if you have a severe toothache, usually along with swelling in your jaw around your tooth.

The endodontist fills the root canals with a rubber-like substance called gutta-percha and then places an adhesive on top of the gutta-percha to seal it within the tooth. After the root canal I was fine. On April I went in to have the temp filling replaced with the permanent filling.

Since then I have definetely had some feeling in the.
