Can you get braces with a root canal

If you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment and you do need to have a root canal , just let your orthodontist know and it should be no problem at all. Many people have braces put on after they have root canal surgery and after they have received crowns. As you know, your brackets are on the front of your teeth, and for the procedure, your endodontist ( root canal specialist) will make an opening in either the back or top side of the tooth. You should be able to get the root canal done while wearing braces.


The orthodontist will usually take off any braces that might be in the way.

You might need to wait a little while before starting back into orthodontic treatment to allow a little healing time after the root canal is done. It is possible that once the braces are off, you may need a permanent crown on the tooth. You can wear braces on any tooth that has root canal.


Once you have root canal , the tooth becomes brittle as time goes on. There is no nerve in the tooth to keep it strong. Yes, you can proceed with orthodontic treatment ( braces ) on the teeth which is root canal treated and crowne provided the root canal goes for a success which can be determined only after a couple of years(5–7). It is just a coincidence if you need a root canal after you have had braces.


Well I have had two root canals (both in my two front teeth) and I am actually getting braces put on tomorrow.

My teeth do not have posts in them but my mother has three teeth that came out and were put back in with posts and she had. With the new technology, you will be able to have both. It takes longer for people who have teeth with root canals (hers took years). If you already have braces , you can get a root canal without any issues.


That being sai they do not get in the way of any work that is being performed inside the teeth. The braces are engineered to work around the teeth that need to be moved. Your orthodontist may, however,. We do this all day long, every day. The tooth may be painful, but the procedure should not be.


Root canals are not painful. You will be numb like you would for any other dental work and the only thing you should feel is pressure. Not sure if your question is about costs.


I know this is an old post but I just got my month smile braces off , ended up being months not but I think I may need a root canal on my front upper tooth now. The week before they were removed my dentist did an adjustment on that tooth to lengthen it by pulling it down from my gum line,. If you’ve had a root canal or a bridge placed within the past six months, be sure to let your orthodontist know. That way, if there are problems during a follow-up for the affected tooth, they can be resolved before cementing braces on.

For braces treatment we require that periodontal ligament space should be viable. Can I have orthodontic treatment if I have a root canal in my tooth? This is a common question that patients ask prior to carrying out orthodontic treatment. More and more orthodontic treatment is carried out on adults and many of our adult patients have extensively restored teeth. The general rule of thumb is that a dental crown will need to be placed over a tooth that has just received a root canal if the tooth is a premolar or one of the back grinding teeth.


A severe infection can result in a tooth extraction procedure which will later require more oral surgery with the placement of a dental implant or dental bridge.
