Tooth retreat

Tooth retention is the best possible treatment when possible, and retreatment can ultimately be the most time- and cost-effective option. Advances in technology are constantly changing the way root canal treatment is performe so your endodontist may use new techniques that were not available when you had your first procedure. You will have to retreat some of your own work. A loose, cracked or broken crown or filling can expose the tooth to new infection. A tooth sustains a fracture.

During retreatment , the endodontist will reopen your tooth and remove the filling materials that were placed in the root canals during the first procedure.

But occasionally, as in any medical procedure, the body may not heal as we expect it to. A root treated tooth may be eased from the occlusion as a measure to prevent tooth fracture prior to the cementation of a crown or similar restoration. Sometimes the dentist performs preliminary treatment of the tooth by removing all of the infected pulp of the tooth and applying a dressing and temporary filling to the tooth.

My tooth is KILLING me right now. I just had it re-done after the first one failed. All of the duties it provided for the tooth prior to its work can still be fulfilled. Assuming the tooth can be retreate it will need to be “reopened”.

A small hole will be made into the biting or chewing surface of the tooth to gain access to the root canal.

In many cases, complex restorative materials — crown, post and core material — must be “disassembled”. Depends: If the tooth has healthy roots and surrounding periodontal tissues then a root canal treatment and a crown would be the treatment of choice. But if the tooth is infected and might have a poor prognosis , then extraction would probably be the best treatment.

In that case, retreating the tooth with root canal therapy or a further surgical procedure, called an apicoectomy, will stop the infection and restore the health of your tooth. Antibiotics, though they can’t cure an abscess by themselves, may be prescribed to prevent infection from spreading. The second refers to the tooth treatment aimed at the removal of infected material and elimination of a toothache. If it were my own mouth, I would prefer the EXTRACTION, followed by an implant. Much better odds than retreating a failed Root Canal.

Have an experienced Implant Surgeon do the extraction, so as to preserve and maintain healthy bone for the implant. He told me that i can go for a long time like this and really dont need a new crown for maybe months. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling. Crowns are normally needed for teeth that have had root canals.

Occasionally, a tooth that has received treatment may not heal. Sometimes, the tooth becomes painful or diseased months or even years after successful treatment. Most root canal treated teeth remain healthy. The tooth can become painful or diseased months or even years after successful treatment.

The good news is a procedure to save your tooth can be performed. A crown that is placed to provisionalize a tooth while other treatment is being provide prior to final restoration placement, is often left in place for a period extending six months or more.

The problem is that I only have enough money to get the tooth retreated and capped. My question is this: Do I need to worry about getting the retreat done, paying for it, and still having fractures? Retreatment of Failed Root Canal Therapy. Your Endodontist may be able to provide insight into potential causes and how they may be corrected. A root canal retreatment procedure may be the best option to preserve your tooth.

The root canal retreatment procedure is similar to the root canal treatment procedure described above, but has a few extra steps and usually requires two visits. A treated and restored tooth can last a lifetime with proper care. Here are a few ways to take care of your teeth after a root canal: Practice good oral hygiene – brush teeth twice a day, and floss at least once. Root canals have a high success rate. Taking care of your teeth can help prevent future problems.

If you develop a painful dental abscess, seek treatment fast. The infection can spread to the rest of the mouth. Find out how a quick response can prevent this. Image from Edward Webb on Flickr.

A wisdom tooth or third molar is one of the three molars per quadrant of the human dentition. It is the most posterior of the three. The age at which wisdom teeth come through is variable, but generally occurs between late teens and early twenties.

Most adults have four wisdom teeth, one in each of the four quadrants, but it is possible to have none, fewer, or more, in which case the extras are called supernumerary teeth.
