Recurring root canal infection

Chronic root canal infection. It surrounds and protects the pulp, which comprises nerves and blood vessels of the tooth. Root canal is a hollow space inside the tooth.

This space can get infected and the condition is known as root canal infection. The term root canal is colloquially used to denote the central space of a tooth , where blood vessels and nerves are present.

Infection to this cavity is not an unusual case. One: that a root canal represents a risk to their overall health. And two: that it has a shelf life and categorically will “fail” eventually. And when it does, it will cause a massive sinus infection , cavitation, and spreading bacteria that may lead to autoimmune diseases. The immune system, organ function, genetics, methylation, and digestive health all play a role in how well the body can fight off root canal infections.

Some people live full, long, healthy lives with infected root canals. Ear pain : Depending on which tooth was treate particularly an upper back molar, the infection could cause ear pain. If the tooth had a root canal and you are still having ear pain, check back with you dentist.

There may be residual infection , or you may have a different dental problem (another tooth or TMJ disorder). A: Extract, Rather than Retreat the Failing Root Canal. If it were my own mouth, I would prefer the EXTRACTION, followed by an implant.

Much better odds than retreating a failed Root Canal. Have an experienced Implant Surgeon do the extraction, so as to preserve and maintain healthy bone for the implant. In a root canal , it is often easy to find disease in the bigger roots, but it is very possible to miss an issue in a smaller root. Fortunately, recent technology includes imaging that can help a dentist see problems in even the smallest roots of your teeth. In some instances, however, a smaller root may be overlooked.

You probably assumed that the root canal and crown took care of the initial problem 1. But this is not always the case. If something goes awry in this process, bacteria can get into the root canal space and cause infection. Leaking coronal restorations.

If the pulpal space isn’t sealed properly during the root canal, this can create a leakage situation in which microorganisms and bacteria can penetrate the space and cause infection. As all disease eventually boils down to selected areas, tissues, and organ systems of the body having chronically increased oxidative stress, the pro-oxidant toxins of root canals promote all diseases at the cellular level. The infection , in general, has a pathway or trajectory that follows.

However, the root-filled tooth and the root canal(s) have already undergone a variety of treatment procedures, including use of mechanical instruments such as burs, and files, local disinfecting agentssuchasirrigants,andinter-appointmentdressings and root filling. Some infections, which could be caused by an abscess, form before the root canal is performe while others experience an infection after the root canal procedure has been completed.

If you have had root canals and the infection keeps recurring , I suggest: Get a last opinion from an experienced Endodontist. Let him try to correct the root canal one last time. At this point the space in the center of the tooth is filled and the surgery is complete.

An a good outcome is usually one that affords a patient less pain than they had prior to the root canal.
