Root canal pain 3 days later

Is it normal to have throbbing days after a root canal treatmeant? What are the symptoms of a bad root canal? Why would an old root canal start causing pain?

Because of the Christmas break, it was performed by two different dentists. Two times the dentist put me on antibiotics - the pain went away each time, but eventually came back. Most pain should subside within a week of having a root canal completed. Two days later , the pain became worse and I can’t control anymore. My face became swollen again and this time, a lot bigger than the first time. The dentist did not want to give me stronger pain meds and told me to give it more time as some people takes longer time to heal from a root canal. If patient has pain even after a month the it is better to go back and consult the doctor.


Patient is advised to take an x ray and re examine the root anal treated tooth for any perforations during treatment or any missing canals or improper canal cleaning or improper canal filling.

Again something was left in to clean it and a temporary filling put in. Nope doc, the pain didnt start right away, other then being in pain during the root canal. However when they adjusted the bote on the corwn, the vibtraion from the drill hurt a surprising amount, but this was only days after the root canal.


Basically the day after, barely any pain.
