Root canal reddit

Is a root canal really that scary? What is the recovery time after a root canal? How bad is a root canal? What are the pros and cons of root canal?


Your nerve can get damaged from a ton of things - injuries, whatever - mine happened because of a botched cavity drilling where my dentist accidentally struck the nerve. I am no dentist nor have any technical knowledge, but this is what I remember from when I almost needed one years ago.

The worst thing really was the smell. The odor of your bone being ablated away is a little disturbing. They knock the fuck out of the nerves with painkiller. They gave me pain pills but I only had to use one or two.


The numbing shot is a little sting, but after that no pain. Your dentist will most likely give you some pain meds as well. Will this for sure need a root canal ? I had numbness last friday and once i started antibiotics numbness and swelling have almost completely disappeared and ive only been on them for days.

Because you will need recurrent visits to the dentist, root canal follow-up costs a bit more as well. That is the reason most people avoid getting a root canal. The treatment of such cavities requires that all the infected pulp inside of the teeth be removed and cleane before the dental filling materials are injected into the tooth.

An infected root canal can usually be retreate unless the root is cracked or the tooth has broken below the gum line. In these cases, tooth extraction may be necessary. It’s possible to overfill a root canal with dental cement, causing a bit of the material to ooze out of the root tip. The second refers to the tooth treatment aimed at the removal of infected material and elimination of a toothache. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed.


Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form.
