Central incisor root canal

As an endodontist who sees patients on a referral basis, treating a central incisor is a relatively rare occasion unless the etiology is traumatic in origin. In these cases, the patient is usually younger, and this poses its own challenges with large canals and incompletely developed root ends. Labiopalatally , the canal is similar to the central incisor, but there is often a narrowing of the canal at the apical third level. The maxillary central incisor is a human tooth in the front upper jaw , or maxilla, and is usually the most visible of all teeth in the mouth.

It is located mesial (closer to the midline of the face) to the maxillary lateral incisor.

Treatment of severely dilacerated maxillary central incisors is a challenge, chiefly due to the difficult position and abnormality of the root. Trauma is a common cause of root dilacerations , particularly in the maxillary anterior region, and various treatment approaches may be necessary — including orthodontic, surgical, endodontic and restorative therapies. Data revealed that the thickness and curvature of canals showed adequate preparation at approximately a size instrument at. Root canal system of the maxillary central incisor.

To better assess the efficacy of mechanical preparation of root canals , transparent specimens of 5extracted maxillary central incisors were investigated for thickness and curvature of the root canal , condition of any accessory canals , and location of the apical foramen. The literature on mandibular incisors reveals that 11– of mandibular incisors possess two canals , although in many of these cases, the canals merge into one in the apical 1–mm of the root. Vertucci examined the root canal morphology of 3mandibular anterior teeth and reported a second canal in 27.

The lateral incisor matches the shade of my other teeth but my front central incisor feels greyish.

The tooth stub below the crown is slightly grey and the lab technician molded my crown to better adjust the color shade given the situation. However after permanent cementation I feel like it is distinctly grey even when on the day of. In incisors the root canal is usually straight, and there are less room for unreachable transversal canals. Molars some times have a network of canals all over the roots in addition to the “normal” central canals in the roots.

And the roots can be curved or have degrees angles. Is it possible to do rootcanal for central incisor? Are root canals covered by dental insurance? What causes peg lateral incisors?

The root of the maxillary central incisor is often bulkier than the lateral with cross-sectional anatomy varying from triangular, circular or oval in shape. The canal is often tapering towards the apex in mature teeth with minimal curvatures in the apical portion (Fig. 1 ). One on my central incisor and one on my lateral incisor. Fiber-optic illumination may, likewise, be helpful during access to this tooth. The initial entry, with the end-cutting fissure bur, is made just above the cingulum.

The access cavity is ovoid. Following assessment and diagnosis, she underwent root canal therapy of her upper right central incisor , which was deemed to be non-vital and had an open apex. Maxillary lateral incisors are widely known to be single rooted with one root canal.

Although rare cases with root canal variations are being reported in many populations, the reports regarding Iranian population is extremely limited.

In this report, we are presenting the endodontic treatment of a double rooted maxillary lateral incisor. From the clinical and radiographic findings, the maxillary lateral incisor was diagnosed as pulp necrosis and chronic apical abscess without sinus, for which root canal treatment was planned. A root canal is a treatment used to repair an infected tooth. Factors such as the patient’s general health, the extent of the infection and the anatomy of the tooth affect the outcome.

The root canal is wide in proportion to the root and also there is usually a distopalatal curve in the apical third of the canal. Therefore, the canal must be instrumented carefully to avoid perforation.
