Eating before root canal

Can I eat before a root canal? What you should know before a root canal? Can a tooth regrow after a root canal? What are the symptoms of a bad root canal? As an experienced Buffalo Endodontist, patients will often ask whether eating before root canal treatment is safe.


We recommend taking your usual medications and eating whatever you normally would prior to having a root canal.

After the procedure, you will be numb, just as if you had a filling done, and won’t want to eat for a while. With technological advancement in the execution of Root Canals the stereotypes are just that, stereotypes. A sleepless night before your procedure will just lead to more anxiety and irritability. Take an over the counter pain medication: A simple Ibuprofen can help ease the soreness and discomfort as the anesthesia wears off. The pain following a Root Canal usually only merits an over the counter remedy.


Pre-medicate, if you normally do, before dental appointments. Eat regular meals before your appointment, unless having I. If you are given X-rays or a referral card by your general dentist, please bring them to your appointment.

Ice-creams , yogurt , milkshakes , etc. This is due to the changes that were made to the tooth that was treated. This feeling usually goes away in a few days.


After a lengthy root canal treatment many patients may feel hungry or thirsty or in need of tea or a coffee. But before you go out to “refuel”, here are some things to consider… What can I eat or drink immediately after my root canal treatment ? The main consideration here is the fact that your mouth will be numb. Patients can eat when they feel ready, but it’s best to choose soft foods.


Avoid crunchy or hard foods. Eating foods that are hard or crunchy increases the risk of damaging the temporary filling. This filling serves to seal the tooth until a permanent restoration is placed. Antibiotics can also be problematic before a root canal procedure. If you need to take antibiotics , make sure you let your endodontist know.


Likewise, if you’re on any other medications, it’s important to make your dental surgeon aware, to make sure you avoid any adverse drug interactions. Adverse reactions are extremely rare, but they do happen. Even after hours of the root canal treatment, your mouth remains numb from the anesthesia.


And this is the reason you have to be careful while eating , so that you don’t accidentally bite on something that might cause you pain or irritation. Consider the following, before eating anything.
