Root canal sensitive to cold

Do root canals really cause cancer? Does a root canal kill a tooth? What is the recovery time after a root canal? How do you know if you need root canal treatment?


Heat sensitivity : A tooth needing root canal can be heat sensitive.

Usually this woud indicate an infected tooth unless you are also senstive to cold. At any rate it would be a good thing to see your denist or endodonist to check your tooth. In some cases, sensitivity can be the result of an infection deep into the tooth. If this is the cause of your sensitivity , your dentist may even suggest a root canal. I had a root canal done last Friday (days ago) because my upper back tooth was hurting from cold water. There is a temporary cap on it until i go back weeks from Friday and get my permanent seal on it. After a root canal procedure, it is normal for a person to feel heat and cold sensitivity for a few days.

But later on this subsides. However, if heat sensitivity after root canal occurs for several months after the procedure, the person should consult a dentist immediately. You have swelling on the gum area around the tooth. The tooth may be sensitive to touch however there is no pain when drinking hot or cold liquids.


Sometimes a tooth may be sensitive to biting following a root canal. During a root canal the infected and damaged part of the tooth called the pulp is removed along with any infection at the end of the tooth root. These areas may take several weeks to heal.


Tooth still sensitive: Still cold sensitive weeks after amalgam fillings. An infected root canal can usually be retreate unless the root is cracked or the tooth has broken below the gum line. In these cases, tooth extraction may be necessary.


Cement or Air Forced Through the Root Tip. It’s possible to overfill a root canal with dental cement, causing a bit of the material to ooze out of the root tip. An infection in a tooth’s root can enter the bloodstream and spread.


An untreated infection requires a root canal to prevent further infection and pain. Sensitivity To Heat or Cold. Another common sign that you might need a root canal is tooth sensitivity.


If your tooth aches when you drink hot drinks such as coffee or tea, this is a problem.

Since tooth decay and infection can often affect the nerve at the center of the tooth, another common sign that you need a root canal is sensitivity to hot and cold temperature. Beverages like hot coffee or cold soda may cause discomfort to your tooth. There may in fact be no radiographic evidence of endodontic failure, or the endo may have been recently performe but still is the culprit. A sudden discomfort felt in the teeth when you taste specific food that is too hot and cold or sweet gets known as Tooth sensitivity cold and hot. It’s no fun when teeth can’t handle hot or cold temperatures, but when you have a tooth sensitive to pressure, there could be more structural issues at play.


The pain in most cases is sharp and sudden but temporary. Whether you’re eating, speaking or brushing your teeth, the cause of this sensitivity can be unknown – but there are ways to cope with it. A root canal has two meanings: the first refers to the inner tooth situated between the tooth roots and the pulp. The second refers to the tooth treatment aimed at the removal of infected material and elimination of a toothache. But since the crown, I have had sensitivity just by barely touching the sides of my tooth.


A fracture down the root of a tooth can not be saved with a root canal and can only be extracted due to the constant flexing of the tooth apon pressure. It could be you have an extra root that was not detected on the radio graph, which is not that rare. In that case you should be able to still feel cold , too.
