Tooth with root canal throbbing

How to treat root canal pain? Does a root canal hurt on the front top tooth? Why would an old root canal start causing pain? What does Throbbing tooth pain mean? Because a throbbing tooth after a root canal can indicate a serious problem, including infection, it is wise to not delay treatment on the tooth.

Untreated infections in your mouth can spread to other parts of your body, causing serious complications.

A root canal involves deep cleaning inside the canals (the inner chamber of the root ) of your tooth , which can in turn. Tooth discoloration means that some changes have occurred within the nerve space. In many cases, this sign indicates that root canal therapy is required. Needless to say I have really bad teeth and have recently had them repaired and crowned over the last yrs. The tooth I had a root canal on was done by a different dentist than the one that repaired my teeth.

The tooth had a temp filling put on it when the RC was first done because I coulnt afford a crown at the time. It’s still possible to bite down and crack the root or an existing crack under the crown may grow down the root. Sometimes the pain will come and go. Pain Under Crown Months After Root Canal ?

Sayman on throbbing pain after root canal : You probably had you mouth open for quite a while and your muscle is sore. Your gum may be irritated from the clamp. The disinfectant used to clean the root canal can irritate as well.

During a root canal treatment , the dentist washes the tooth roots with sodium hypochlorite , a solution that kills bacteria, dissolves any remaining nerve tissue and washes away the slurry that accumulates during the process. In rare cases, some solution can leak out of the root tip , causing immediate pain, even with the area still numb. People with sinus problems often have pain or throbbing , especially in the upper teeth because the sinuses and tooth roots are so close. This cause of tooth pain is sometimes hard to diagnose.

If the dentist has performed a through examination and cannot determine any other likely cause of the pain or throbbing coming from the teeth, you may need to visit a medical doctor. Crowns are often needed because of deep or large cavities. Even when the tooth is crowne the nerve may have been sufficiently damaged by the preexisting tooth problem that it dies.

This can lead to a localized infection, a tooth abscess, which generally requires root canal therapy. A small blow to a tooth may cause just a temporary small toothache, while a large force may actually fracture the tooth causing a throbbing, long-term toothache. Mild gum disease called “ gingivitis ” usually causes minor discomfort, but severe gum disease called “periodontitis” can cause severe throbbing pain.

This is a very uncommon cause of post root canal pain. This “phantom pain” is caused when the nerve leading to the tooth that received root canal treatment is still attached to the tooth nerve even if the nerve endings in the tooth’s roots have been removed. Like an amputee who feels “phantom pain” in a limb that has been remove the nerve will feel like the tooth is infected or sick even when it is not. However, there are other options. A partial denture, which is fake teeth that snap on to your other teeth and come in and out or a fixed bridge, which is a fake tooth suspended between two crowns cemented on the neighboring teeth.

Oftentimes, dental emergencies involve an infected tooth with throbbing pain that needs root canal treatment.

Unfortunately, the words “root canal” have become synonymous with pain. The reason for pain is due to Pulpitis (inflammation). Your dentist can take an X ray pic to see if the root canal treatment is done well. If the throbbing pain does not eventually resolve, this may indicate a failure of the procedure… Failed root canal. This is unfortunately a possibility with any tooth, but is much more likely with difficult teeth and your dentist may warn you of such possibilities before treatment.

This may last a few days or may not resolve.
