Root canal hurting months later

If the root tip itself was infected before the root canal , there’s probably room for a little excess cement and you’ll never know it was overfilled. If the tooth was not infected around the tip of the root , that’s when overfilling is likely to cause pain after a root canal. It’s rare, but a tiny bubble of air can also be forced out of the root tip, causing pressure and pain. It may take some time, but the pain in either case should subside on its own.


This is temporary, and should go away on its own as long as you practice good oral hygiene.

You should see your dentist for a follow-up. It is not nearly as bad as it was initially. If abscessed tooth develops after root canal procedure it can lead to toothache even after years of root canal.


Cracked or broken tooth: One of the causes of toothache after root canal is fractured root during or after root canal treatment. If you are placing a lot of stress on that tooth because the crown is not seated properly, the ligaments get stressed as well. This could be more like a Referred pain originating from one of the teeth close to the root canal treated tooth.

Its not all the time and not as bad as it was before I got the root canal. Does anyone have any suggestions as to. Mine failed year later , then it cracked after sessions with my dentist. All the root canal fees all came to nothing. Geez that sounds rough. It was terrific until about yrs ago.


My dentist checked it out and said there was an infection in it that had to be cleaned out.

Most pain should subside within a week of having a root canal completed. If pain persists, it could indicate that there is still a low-grade infection around the tooth. In some cases, your dentist can prescribe you an antibiotic, or adjust the filling placed in the tooth if it was overbuilt. It takes 2-days for the inflammation around the roots of a tooth that has had a root canal done to calm down.


Advil (ibuprofen) will help this pain. The root canal can fail or never be successful and thus a tooth with a new crown will hurt. The first thing they did was to tell me I needed a root canal and so I let them do it. That was six months ago and it hurt after they did it.


They kept saying the pain would wear off.
