Root cavity filling

Basically, a root canal is like a filling but for the inside of the tooth, deep in the roots , where the nerve and blood supply is. A “regular” filling is to address decay on the top part of the tooth. In order to get rid of the cavity , bacteria and damage to the tooth, your dentist may recommend a dental filling.

This dental filling is a way to restore the tooth damage. During a filling , your dentist fills these holes with a substance, such as amalgam or composite.

While this is a simple, routine procedure, it leaves many people with sensitive teeth afterward. Cavities Can Happen Anywhere – Even Under Fillings. While fillings are in place to help fill a cavity and protect your tooth from even further decay, the fact is that cavities can occur anywhere – even under fillings. This is especially true in older fillings , which may need replacing.

Treating a cavity on an exposed part of the tooth root involves removing decay with a dental drill and placing a filling. Occasionally, root decay can progress below the gum line. To treat root cavities , dentists start by removing any tooth decay and then fill the cavity with a filling.

If decay has spread to the pulp, root canal therapy is usually needed. Since this portion of the tooth does not have as much protective enamel, tooth decay can spread relatively quickly. This is why it’s very important to treat root cavities as soon as possible. At McCarl Dental Group, we have not used amalgam fillings for more than years.

We use tooth colored composite filling material to fill a cavity after removing tooth decay. In your case it seems that the dentist tried to be conservative and just do a filling in a cavity that was close to the nerve. As for fees, those are separate from the original filling fee. Filling a root cavity is very demanding due to their location and difficulties with moisture control.

Hence there are chances of decay recurrence and the fillings may have shorter life span. They most commonly occur among older adults, the demographic most likely to have receding gums and other gum disorders. When gums recede, the roots are left exposed. A root canal is a different type of restoration treatment that your Krengel Dental dentist will suggest when the extent of damage to the tooth has reached the tooth nerve. Once a nerve is damage a root canal is necessary to not only restore the tooth, but to keep any infections in the tooth pulp from spreading through the mouth.

Similar to the filling procedure, your dentist will first numb the tooth and surrounding areas. A root canal or endodontic therapy may be needed if you have a severely decayed tooth that has reached the tooth pulp and caused an infection. In larger cavities, fillings can help reinforce the tooth structure and circumvent the need for a root canal.

Most of us know that fillings need to be replaced at some point in time—but did you know that cavities can. However, there are cases when the cavity may be too deep for a filling to be effective. Your dentist may still attempt to fill the tooth, then wait and see if the filling solves any pain or discomfort you may feel. If it does, the filling will be left as is. A filling is a first and most conservative treatment option, when there is a deep cavity.

I always warn my patients that a root canal might be needed in such case. AFTER a new filling – Kanata Ottawa Dentist. It just happened again. So ba in fact, that now she needs a root canal.

Root decay (also called “root caries” or “root cavities”) occurs when cavities form on the root surfaces of your teeth. The root surfaces are not usually visible unless your gums have recede but if you have root cavities, then they are visible where your teeth meet your gums. Etching – for a bonded filling your dentist will etch the tooth with an acid gel before placing the filling. Resin application – for certain types of fillings the dentist will layer on the resin and harden it using a bright light. Polishing – after the filling has been place your dentist will polish the tooth.

In this situation, even after the preparation (hole) for the filling has been drille the tooth remains relatively whole and intact.
