Sinus pain after root canal

Most of the time, a few minor sinus problems are not a concern.

First things first, don’t panic. Some minor sinus issues can occur after a root canal on one of your upper teeth. This is because the sinus lining is very thin, and it’s quite close to the roots of your teeth.


That’s because your root canal and your sinus cavity are basically next door neighbors that share a thin wall. Now that your dentist has chipped away some of that barrier between your sinus and your root canal , that wall is thinner and more transparent. Viola – now you have a sinus problem after your root canal.


A sinus puncture is different than sinus communication. In contrast, a sinus puncture is much larger, and usually requires sutures to heal properly. You’re feeling a little stuffy and uncomfortable, but you figure that’s just part of it.

Other than some tenderness in your gums, or minor tooth sensitivity, you shouldn’t experience any symptoms after a root canal. Emergency dentist visit revealed a serious infection in the lower jaw, and I was prescribed stat antibiotics and a fast visit to an endodontist. This tooth has had a root canal procedure. The next few days the pain was reduced to numbness and discomfort. My usual dentist said I needed another root canal , he pointed out a suspect root on the x-ray. I did have a root canal on my tooth after crown had fallen off within days and then put back on.


I’m on day number and when I bite down on tooth it is painful.
