Tooth adjacent to root canal hurts

It’s still possible to bite down and crack the root or an existing crack under the crown may grow down the root. This may cause pain when biting down on the crown in certain ways. Sometimes the pain will come and go. The most common source of pain after a root canal is the inflammation of tissues around the tooth’s root.

This is “periradicular inflammation.

If the cause of the pain is due to a missed canal , the endodontist will need to open the tooth , remove the filling and try to find the canal. If the tooth has a vertical fracture , the dentist would likely have to remove the tooth. If a person experiences persistent inflammation or infection after a root canal ,. Seems I had a curved canal , and one of the teeny tiny pins broke off inside my root.

The possible causes of pain are numerous, and include inflammation of the tissues at the end of the tooth root after root canal. Lots of reasons: Could be the sore tooth has issues that need to be addresse such as cavity, split, etc. Could be referred pain from the root canal treated tooth as the infection clears and the area heals.

Could be an occlusal problem, with change in the way teeth meet as adjacent teeth are reshaped. If the final filling or crown is even a fraction too big, it hits the opposite tooth with too much force compared to surrounding teeth , which can cause pain after a root canal. Fortunately, this is an easy fix. The dentist simply needs to adjust the filling or crown to remove the high spot on the tooth , though the pain may still linger for three to five days. Pain in a adjacent tooth that had a root canal.

Just had a root canal done on the very back bottom left tooth. Actually I have two teeth that have a temporary crown on them and the temporary crown covers both teeth. Likely possibility that one of the Adjacent tooth or Opposing tooth on the same side of the arch may be having pulpitis.

This could be more like a Referred pain originating from one of the teeth close to the root canal treated tooth. Why Would an Old Root Canal Start Causing Pain ? The first thing they did was to tell me I needed a root canal and so I let them do it. That was six months ago and it hurt after they did it. They kept saying the pain would wear off. There are a number of possible causes of pain after the completion of a root canal.

After a root canal is complete no living nerve tissue remains inside the tooth , but nerve endings remain in the ligaments that attach the tooth to the surrounding bone. These ligaments have nerve fiber associated with them that can feel pain.

They are the source of any post root canal pain. However, if the pain is intense and lasts for more than a few weeks, it might be an indication of root canal failure. Trauma to the adjacent tooth is one of the complications which can occur during tooth extraction. It can occur because of injudicious use of instruments during tooth extraction.

If the adjacent tooth is cracked or is fractured during tooth extraction, then treatment is required for it. Those are har if not impossible, to fix. Messing with a tooth that has a root canal can stir things up and cause an infection to flare up. Taking into consideration that the pain is from the root canal treated tooth , there are chances that infection has started again in that tooth.

A root canal has two meanings: the first refers to the inner tooth situated between the tooth roots and the pulp. The second refers to the tooth treatment aimed at the removal of infected material and elimination of a toothache.
