Root canal tooth hurts after a year

Should a tooth hurt after a root canal? Why would you have pain in tooth years after having a root canal? How long did your root canal Tooth last? Does a tooth that had a root canal still Ache? What are potential complications after a root canal?

Any missed root canal to treat the infection can result in infection and toothache years after root canal.

Abscesses on the gums: Our gum is attached externally to the bone and tooth. The attached gum is protected from infection by proper oral brushing and flossing. If abscessed tooth develops after root canal procedure it can lead to toothache even after years of root canal. The roots of a tooth are made slightly more brittle by root canal treatment.

Although placement of a crown helps protect the treated root from fracturing during chewing, a crack may still develop years later. Additionally, it is rare but possible that the root canal treatment itself can cause a fracture in a tooth root. If the final filling or crown is even a fraction too big, it hits the opposite tooth with too much force compared to surrounding teeth , which can cause pain after a root canal.

Fortunately, this is an easy fix.

The dentist simply needs to adjust the filling or crown to remove the high spot on the tooth , though the pain may still linger for three to five days. The most common symptom of a failed root canal is pain in the tooth that does not go away after several days. Two times the dentist put me on antibiotics - the pain went away each time, but eventually came back. X-rays showed nothing unusual.

Finally the dentist removed the crown and went back into the tooth. He found a SECOND root. Removed it, and no more pain ! But it was a miserable year for sure. After and a half year , the tooth is still sensitive to pressure and it still hurts. I agreed for a re-treatment which was scheduled next week.

There are a number of possible causes of pain after the completion of a root canal. After a root canal is complete no living nerve tissue remains inside the tooth , but nerve endings remain in the ligaments that attach the tooth to the surrounding bone. These ligaments have nerve fiber associated with them that can feel pain. They are the source of any post root canal pain.

A root canal is more likely to fail if a permanent filling or crown is not placed to protect the tooth. A root canal can fail within days, weeks, months or even many years after the procedure has been completed and will be marked by a return of pain. You probably assumed that the root canal and crown took care of the initial problem 1.

There are various ways a root canal treated tooth can start to hurt years after the endodontic procedure was completed. The problem may lie in the tooth itself or in the nearby teeth. Usually the problem is a recurring infection. It may also be a new infection.

If the cause of the pain is due to a missed canal , the endodontist will need to open the tooth , remove the filling and try to find the canal. If the tooth has a vertical fracture, the dentist would likely have to remove the tooth. If a person experiences persistent inflammation or infection after a root canal ,. A root canal involves deep cleaning inside the canals (the inner chamber of the root ) of your tooth , which can in turn.

It’s still possible to bite down and crack the root or an existing crack under the crown may grow down the root. This may cause pain when biting down on the crown in certain ways. Sometimes the pain will come and go. Most root canal teeth can last many years, often a lifetime.

However, sometimes root canal teeth will fail many years later for no apparent reason. Depending on the specific situation, the root. Root canaled teeth fracture easier and more frequently non- root canal teeth.

A third reason is that you may have a gum problem or periodontal abscess around that tooth , that has no relationship to the root canal treatment.
