Teeth around root canal hurt

This is “periradicular inflammation. Depending on severity, it does take some time for such swelling to go down and the tissue to fully heal. Once this happens, the root is no longer sealed and bacteria are harbored inside the tooth and its roots. Eventually this will lead to an infection of the tissue around the tooth.

If the cause of the pain is due to a missed canal , the endodontist will need to open the tooth , remove the filling and try to find the canal.

This can cause some inflammation and pain. After a root canal is complete no living nerve tissue remains inside the tooth, but nerve endings remain in the ligaments that attach the tooth to the surrounding bone. These ligaments have nerve fiber associated with them that can feel pain. They are the source of any post root canal pain.

Inflammation can occur if the dentist’s root canal files poke beyond the tip of the root or if debris escapes in this area. While a good dentist does everything they can to prevent this from occurring, it can happen. Decay: Tooth decay that has penetrated the outer layers of the teeth causes root canal pain.
